Yolen sees her stories and poems as somehow rooted in her sense of family and self. Yolen, who has been called the Hans Christian Andersen of America and the Aesop of the twentieth century, also taught writing and literature and served on the Board of Directors of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
